At the Niagara College Invitational at Cardinals Lakes GC in Welland, the Fanshawe Falcons men’s squad finished third, while the women finished first amongst two competing teams.

Cohen Adamson of Kemptville, Ont. led the birds with an even-par 72 and an individual first-place tie with Zack Zylstra of St. Clair College Saints. Other Falcons scores: John Van Bilsen (Glencoe) +4, Zander Battaglia (St. Thomas) +8 and Luke Evans (Georgetown) +13.

Fanshawe finished a collective +25, a total of 15 strokes behind winner St. Clair, and just four strokes behind runner-up and powerhouse Humber Hawks.

In recent years, the women’s golf program at Fanshawe has been dismal, but that’s changing – and hopefully will help improve OCAA women’s golf which badly needs a boost. Pitted only against the Georgian College Grizzlies in team competition, the Falcons shot a collective +23 to edge the Barrie school by just three strokes.

Top Falcon Mya Summer (Ridgetown) shot 83 (+11),  good for fourth place and six strokes behind winner Bryden Dilley of Georgian. Ashton Clark (Blenheim) posted a round of 84 (+12) for Fanshawe to finish alone in fifth place.

Competing as an individual golfers, St. Clair’s Justine Gorham and Humber’s Ava Bechard were runners-up at +8, three strokes behind Dilley.

Fanshawe’s Tori Battle (London) finished 8th at +27, while Danika Dorland was last in the field of 10 golfers at +29.

Next up for the Falcons: the Georgian Invitational at Heritage Hills GC, Barrie on Sept. 24, then the Fanshawe-hosted OCAA Championship at FireRock GC, Komoka Sept. 28-30.
