National not-for-profit motionball for Special Olympics is bringing its signature Marathon of Sport back to London on Saturday, September 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the BMO Centre. The event brings together participants of all abilities to come together for a high-energy day of inclusive sport, community, and impact, all in support of the Special Olympics Canada Foundation.
This year, Marathon of Sport London is excited to welcome participants to its new venue, the BMO Centre, offering a new venue to celebrate inclusion, teamwork, and the power of sport. Teams will compete in a variety of exciting activities including bench ball, bucket ball, kin-ball, soccer, basketball, and more. The event will also feature an on-site raffle and fun activities throughout the day to keep the energy high both on and off the field.
Participants will be fueled throughout the day, starting with a light breakfast featuring coffee and fresh pastries, followed by a well-deserved lunch, provided by Pizza Quest London between games. To show team spirit, everyone will receive a motionball participant shirt to unite their teams on the field, plus a motionball hat, perfect for representing motionball wherever they go.
“Every year, the energy and enthusiasm at this event is incredible, and we can’t wait to welcome participants for another unforgettable day of sport, inclusion, and community,” says Justin Mulligan, Co-Event Director of motionball London. “Seeing all the joy it brings, not only to the Special Olympics athletes but to every participant, is truly amazing. It really is a magical day that creates lifelong memories and lasting bonds.”
“Participating in the Marathon of Sport and being a part of motionball has changed my life,” says Katie Zammit, Co-Event Director of motionball London. “I show up to volunteer my time, but I almost feel guilty because of how much joy and happiness I receive from the day. It’s truly a community coming together to celebrate all that we are.”
London will keep the celebration going as it doesn’t end when the games do. Participants will receive a drink ticket to enjoy the official Marathon of Sport afterparty in downtown London, providing another opportunity to celebrate an incredible day while supporting an even greater cause.
