Today’s From the Vault feature goes back to the May/June 1999 edition of the now-defunct London Magazine. Jeffrey Reed’s sports column focused on the upswing of women’s golf, and featured a photo of LPGA Tour competitor Deborah Vidal, as well as local golf legend Patty Howard (photos by Jeffrey Reed). Incredibly, Vidal did not pick up a golf club until age 23, and qualified for the Tour on her first attempt – just three-and-a-half years later. But what really drew attention to Vidal was her golf apparel, which was outside the norm back in 1993 when this photo was taken. When the American practiced her chipping at London Hunt and Country Club, she drew a large crowd for her modern attire – which pales in comparison to today’s golf wear. Enjoy this column.
