COVID-Closed Camps Seek $230M From Feds, Province

The Ontario Camps Association (OCA) is lobbying the federal government for $200 million, and the Ontario government for $30 million in financial aid due to COVID-19 pandemic closures.

OCA says if no government funds materialize, an estimated 20 per cent of the province’s summer camps will close for good by this fall, and 40 per cent will close permanently by next spring.

With Ontario Premier Doug Ford announcing Stage 3 openings, only summer day camps may open, but with limited attendees.

OCA says Ontario’s camp industry generates $2 billion annually, with about two million children attending camps and 70,000 youth employed.
