Mason, Spoozak SPECTRA Award Winners

Each graduating year two exceptional student athletes from London-Middlesex are recognized with the Spectra Award, and a $500 bursary.

Spectra stands for Sportsmanship, Participation, Excellence, Character, Teamwork, Respect and Achievement.

This year’s winners are Matt Mason of Sir Wilfred Laurier Secondary School, and Lily Spoozak of Catholic Central High.

Matt Mason:

OFSAA Cross Country 2019 Senior Boys Champion
5x WOSSAA Champion, 7x TVRA champion between Cross Country and Track and Field
Competed on the school Swim team for 2 years, and the Hocky team for 2 years
Lead London Westerm Track and Field Club to a national championship at the ACXC championships (Athletics Canada Cross Country championships)
Academic Honours throughout all 3 years of high school completed so far
Attending Boston University for Finance/Economics next year

Lily Spoozak:

She is a Grade 12 student at Catholic Central High School. She has been highly involved with athletics at CCH, playing 4 sports at a competitive level each year:

Lily is a high-calibre student, with a current overall average of 98.5%. She has finished with the top average in her grade each year, earning the Honour Society Gold Medal (9, 11), and Silver Medal (10). She has won the following subject awards over the last 3 years throughout grades 9, 10, and 11:
Grade 9 Courses: IB Math, IB English, Geography, Religion, and Gym
Grade 10 Courses: IB Math, IB Science
Grade 11 Courses: IB Functions, IB French, Biology, World Religions, Chemistry, and Band
Grade 12 Courses: IB Advanced Functions, IB French, and Physics
She is also part of the International Baccalaureate Programme, and has received the Canadian Intermediate Mathematics Certificate of Distinction.
In addition, Lily has a strong focus on community involvement, and has volunteered in the following roles:
Weekly Reader and Study Assistant to a blind woman studying to be a massage therapist in college
Research assistant to a Medical Resident at St. Joseph’s Family Medical Centre
Teaching STEM to young Girl Guides of Canada
Minor Track and Field Official
Score keeper for CCH boy’s volleyball and girl’s basketball teams
Women Run London and The Colour Run marshals
Organizing food bank for school
Volunteer for the Children’s Museum of London
