Higuera Fans 12 In Complete-Game Win For Majors

Higuera strikes out 12 in complete-game win

LONDON – Juliandry Higuera went the distance and struck out 12 in the London Majors’ 6-3 win over the Guelph Royals Friday night at Labatt Park.
Higuera (2-2) scattered nine hits and allowed two earned runs while walking one.
Ismael Pena had two hits, two RBI and a run, Cleveland Brownlee went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run, Carlos Arteaga singled twice and scored, Phillip Thrappas had an RBI and a run, while Byron Reichstein and Mike Ambrose each had an RBI.
David Mendham went 2-for-5 with two runs. Jeff MacLeod and Ethan Mohan both drove in a run.
Yomar Concepcion (1-1) gave up six runs (four earned) on 10 hits in six innings. He struck out six and didn’t walk a batter.
Guelph dropped to 5-6, and London improved to 3-8.

Early lead enough for Cardinals

HAMILTON – Seven runs over the first two innings were enough for the Hamilton Cardinals in a 10-4 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs Friday night at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.
Justin Gideon led the way with three hits, three runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Connor Bowie went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run, Chris Beer drove in two on a pair of hits, Jon Dziomba singled twice and had an RBI and a run, Jake Chiaravalle drove in two and scored once, and Grant Arnold singled and scored three runs.
Chris Lazar (2-1) struck out nine over 6.1 innings for the win. He allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits.
Zach Sloan (0-4) took the loss, giving up eight runs (five earned) on eight hits in five innings. He walked four and struck out three.
Offensively, Damon Topolie, Cooper Lamb and Ryan Johnston all had an RBI.
Hamilton improved to 4-3, and Toronto fell to 4-7.

Nivins homers twice in Panthers’ win

BRANTFORD – Tanner Nivins homered twice and drove in six as the Kitchener Panthers beat the Brantford Red Sox 13-4 Friday night at Arnold Anderson Stadium.
Nivins also singled and scored three times as Kitchener moved to 8-2.
Brian Burton had three hits and three runs, Ryley Davenport went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and scored twice, Andy Leader drove in three, Keegan Marsden had an RBI and scored twice, and Yorbis Borroto doubled and scored twice.
Yoennis Yera (1-0) went six innings, giving up three runs on seven hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.
Jacob Reid had the Red Sox RBI. Chris Iltshishin singled twice. Nic Burdett and Anthony Rizquez both had a hit and scored.
Brady Cappe allowed seven runs (five earned) on eight hits over 4.2 innings. He walked three and struck out four.
Brantford dropped to 1-7.
