FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE WEDNESDAY, MAY 4TH, 2016
JEFFREY REED, DISABLED ATHLETE, RETURNS TO BERNIE ARBOUR TO RELIVE HIS DREAM DAY

The Hamilton Cardinals are pleased to announce that former IBL pitcher and disabled athlete Jeffrey Reed will return to Bernie Arbour Stadium on Sunday May 8th to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the home opener against the Kitchener Panthers.

Reed, who pitched for the London Majors, is returning to Bernie Arbour for the first time since he threw a scoreless inning against the Cardinals on July 25th, 2001.  This feat was made more remarkable because he lives with numerous physical disabilities, including club feet, scoliosis, spina bifida occulta, plus neck and jaw deformities.  Doctors had given Reed and his parents little hope that he would ever walk normal, let alone play sports at any level.

“I am deeply thankful to the Hamilton Cardinals organization, particularly assistant GM Krystle Thompson, for allowing me and my family to return to Bernie Arbour, where it all happened 15 years ago,” said Reed.

He went on to add, “In addition to my 2001 Majors teammates, many of the Cardinals players and coaches congratulated me and shook my hand following that memorable game. I’ve always respected the Cardinals organization for the class they’ve shown, and that they continue to show, and can’t thank them enough.”

This past October, Reed and his Wife, Elizabeth, created the Jeffrey Reed Courage Award.  Each year, beginning this year, a Southwestern Ontario athlete will be given a $1,000 cheque plus a plaque, recognizing that they have inspired others with courage on and off the playing field.  For more information on the Jeffrey Reed Courage Award please contact Elizabeth Reed at elizabeth@londonontariosports.com.

Hamilton will open their 2016 IBL season on the road in Guelph on Saturday May 7th when they face the Royals at David E Hastings Stadium starting at 1:00pm.  The next day the Cardinals will open the home portion of their schedule, hosting the Kitchener Panthers at Bernie Arbour Stadium.  Game time is 2:00pm.  The first 100 moms that enter Bernie Arbour on Sunday, Mother’s Day, will receive a flower courtesy of Jean’s Flower Shop.

Tickets for all Hamilton Cardinals home games are available at the Bernie Arbour Stadium Box Office on game day.  For more information on tickets please visit www.iblcardinals.com.
