Bolts Announce Player Signings

Bolts Sign Guard Marvin Binney

The London Lightning are pleased to announce that we have signed Canadian guard Marvin Binney.

The 2019-20 NBL Canada season will mark Binney’s fourth with the league after playing parts of three seasons with the Windsor Express and Saint John Riptide.

Binney was originally listed on the Riptide’s six-man protected player list before they were granted a year sabbatical from league play, giving Marvin free agent status to sign with any NBL Canada team. The 6’3″ Toronto native enjoyed career-highs in all major statistical categories last season and is expected to take another jump heading into this season.

“Marvin plays with great pace, is a tenacious defender and has shown great leadership qualities to this point in his career. He is the type of player who comes to work every day with his hard hat on and will bring a level of toughness and Grit that we will be about this season. We are happy to have him,” said head coach Doug Plumb.

“Just want to thank God, Coach Plumb and the London Lightning organization for the opportunity to suit up for them this season. Excited to be part of the program, and ready to get to work,” said Binney.

Guard Omar Strong Joins Lightning

The London Lightning are pleased to announce that we have signed veteran guard Omar Strong for the 2019-2020 season.

Omar is a former NBL Canada Sixth Man of the Year and currently holds the NBLC record for 3-point field goals made in a season with 148. Strong also currently ranks 11th all-time with 237 made threes.

A career 43% shooter from deep, Strong’s great outside shooting will help the Lightning greatly after finishing the 2018-19 season in the bottom half of the league in both 3-Point Field Goals Made and 3-Point Percentage. This will be Omar’s 6th season as a professional and 3rd in the National Basketball League of Canada with previous stops in Mississauga, Niagara and Windsor.

“I’m very pleased to be able to add Omar to our roster this year.  Omar is a proven veteran with a championship mentality and has the ability to fill it up quickly with the best of them. He brings a level of toughness and confidence on and off the floor that is contagious and something we want to hang our hat on as a club,” said head coach Doug Plumb.

“I’m extremely excited to be a part of the London Lightning organization. I appreciate the organization welcoming me into their family and I’m looking forward to bringing my experience and outlook to the team. It will be an amazing and fun season! Let’s get it!” said Strong.
