Warner Wins Pan Am Gold

London’s Damian Warner is poised to claim back-to-back Pan Am Games decathlon gold medals after a stellar Tuesday.

Warner, 29, was tops in 100 m dash (10.32 seconds) and recorded a season’s-best long jump (7.74 m). Combined with a fourth-place shot put (15.01 m) and seventh-place high jump (1.97 m), Warner accumulated 4,499 points – good for top spot.

Fellow Canadian Pierce LePage edged the Londoner in the 400 m event, racing to 47.74 seconds – just 0.03 seconds ahead of Warner, who holds the Pan Am Games record 8,659 points at the 2015 Toronto Games.

The final five events – hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500 m race – begin today.
