Fleming Inks Three-Year Deal With Chelsea

Jessie Fleming

London’s Jessie Fleming, who recently announced she was leaving UCLA for the pro ranks, signed today with Chelsea.

Fleming, 22, a star midfielder with the Canadian national side, inked a three-year deal with Chelsea of the FA Women’s Super League.

“Jessie is one of the top young players in the world,” said Chelsea manager Emma Hayes, “so for us to be able to sign her is a testament to the work that has been done here for a number of years. She chose Chelsea, this was her first priority, her first choice and we were over the moon to get her.”

Fleming told Sportsnet, “I think the quality of play there and having the opportunity to play for a club that’s attached to a big men’s team is really exciting for me. I think just the culture around football there and just the atmosphere is something I’m really excited for.”

The Blues, FA and Continental Cup champs, finished 12-0-3 and just a single point behind Manchester City when the season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but were awarded the league title on a points-per-game basis.
