Women’s Volleyball Wins Lords Tournament

The #5 CCAA ranked Falcons Women’s Volleyball team competed in the Durham Lords tournament last weekend. Fanshawe went 5-0 to claim the title for the second consecutive year.

The Falcons opened the weekend with a 3-0 victory over the Seneca Sting, then defeated the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers 3-1. On Saturday, Fanshawe swept Trent University and followed that with a 3-1 semi-final win over Loyalist. In the final on Sunday, the Birds defeated host #14 Durham, who sit at the top of the OCAA East Division with a record of 9-0, three sets to none.

Meghan Morelli (London, ON) was named the tournament MVP, while teammates Danielle Grasman (Komoka, ON) and Janelle Albert (Brampton, ON) were named tournament all-stars.

The Falcons will resume league play on January 11 at Mohawk.

Men’s Volleyball Returns From Red Deer

The #1 nationally ranked Fanshawe Men’s Volleyball squad travelled to Red Deer, Alberta over the holidays to take on some of Canada’s top teams in exhibition play.

From December 28-30, the Falcons defeated 2017/18 CCAA champions, #6 Titans de Limoilou in three straight sets. They followed that with a 3-2 victory over #3 Keyano Huskies and 3-0 win over host #11 Red Deer. Unfortunately, Fanshawe dropped their final match of the weekend 3-1 to Vancouver Island University.

Next up, the Falcons travel to Hamilton on January 11 to play against the Mohawk Mountaineers.

Women’s Basketball Wins Sting Classic

The #2 CCAA ranked Fanshawe Women’s Basketball team won the Seneca Sting Classic exhibition tournament over the weekend.

The Falcons started with a comfortable 99-46 win over Mohawk on Friday, then defeated Sheridan 89-58 in the semi-final on Saturday. Fanshawe faced #11 Ste. Foy in the championship game and came away with a 79-74 win. Four Falcons notched double figures in the victory; London natives Chuot Angou (20), Mikhaila Wright (16), Natalie Warren (10) and St. Catherine’s Mary Ingribelli (15).

Wright added a game-high seven assists, while Warren and Ingribelli contributed eight rebounds each.
Fanshawe will travel to take on the University of Toronto Mississauga Eagles on January 13 to resume league play.

Men’s Basketball Return From OCAA East-West Classic

The Falcons Men’s Basketball squad played in the OCAA East/West Classic exhibition tournament on December 28 and 29. Fanshawe dropped three close games to #11 Seneca (69-60), #6 George Brown (91-85) and Centennial (69-58).
Fanshawe will look to bounce back when they play University of Toronto Mississauga on the road on January 13.
