Bill Phillips Memorial Synchronized Skating Dec. 7-9

From the North Dorchester Skating Club:

The North Dorchester Skating Club, London Skating Club and Skate Ontario are co-hosting the 2018 Bill Phillips Memorial Invitational Synchronized Skating Competition at the Flight Exec Centre in Dorchester from Friday, Dec. 7 to Sunday, Dec. 9.

These skaters have been training approximately six to nine months and will descend upon The Municipality of Thames Centre for three days. More than 100 teams, including more than 1,600 athletes, managers, coaches and committee members will be in the Dorchester and London areas, in addition giving these communities an economic boost.

The sport of synchronized skating has come a long way over the years and recently has applied to be recognized as an Olympic Sport. Canadian teams also compete on the international stage in various European countries and have been crowned with the gold medal in the not so distant past. Generally the teams will compete five to six times per year in Canada.

Local teams include Thames Centre’s Dragonflies, coached by Lynne Finlay; London’s Synchronicity, coached by Candince Vahne; and The Ilderton Synchro Teams, including the newly-developed Ilderton Junior Team coached by Sheri and Cara Moir, and and Carol & Alma Moir.
