Saturday at Deerhurst Highlands Golf Course in Huntsville, Eric Zhao beat Dawson Lew in a playoff to capture the 103rd Ontario Men’s Amateur championship.
Zhao, of Bayview Golf & Country Club, and Team Ontario member Lew of Coppinwood Golf Club, both finished 7-under-par 281.
Zhao, 17, of Toronto, posted steady rounds of 70-71-70-70. His 2,330 World Amateur Golf Ranking will rise after the victory. He has already committed to study and play golf at Princeton University.
Amateur and mid-am standout Garrett Rank of Westmount Golf & Country Club finished third at four strokes back at -3, while another mid-am star, Charles Fitzsimmons, finished ninth at +3.
Derek Dalziel of The Oaks Golf & Country Club was the only local golfer in the field. He finished +13, good for T32.
