The Ontario Women’s Amateur Championship wrapped up today at eQuinelle Golf Course in Kemptville, where competitors also battled for the Ontario Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship. In total, the field included 99 golfers from across the province. Play was briefly suspended this afternoon due to a thunderstorm as the final groups were completing their round.

Team Ontario athletes Kaylan Green and Kaprice Park delivered standout performances at the tournament, finishing first and second. Green, representing Scarboro Golf & Country Club, finished 69-69-69-68—275 (-13), two shots better than Park of RattleSnake Point Golf Club. Lilli Downer of Summit Golf & Country Club finished third.

Jessie Mercer of Cataraqui Golf & Country Club claimed the three-round Ontario Mid-Amateur Championship with rounds of 70-76-74—220 (+4). Tied for runner-up honours were Kiley Rodrigues of Cataraqui Golf & Country Club and Mary-Ann Hayward of St. Thomas Golf & Country Club.

With their top-three finishes, Green, Park and Downer will represent the province at the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship July 21-24 at The Toronto Golf Club.

Today, junior golfer Andrea Lai (St. Thomas G&CC) was the top local finisher at T10. She fired rounds of 75-69-73-70—287 (-1).
In fact, all three locals in the field this week hail from the Union golf club. Canadian Golf Hall of Fame inductee Hayward is a five-time Ontario Women’s Am champ. The Ontario Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship trophy is named in her honour.

Hayward and fellow St. Thomas G&CC member Jadelina Tep-Chhun both MC.
