Today at Lora Bay Golf Club in Thornbury, Ashley Chinner of Coppinwood Golf Club in Goodwood, Ont. captured the 90th Ontario Senior Men’s Championship, while Tim Lee of Hamilton’s Beverly Golf & Country Club won the 70-and-over division.
Chinner, an Ontario Golf Hall of Fame inductee and winner of this tournament in 2021, posted rounds of 70-68-70–208 (-8) at the par-72 track for a five-stroke victory over runner-up Mike Kray of Rattlesnake Point Golf Club in Milton.
Chinner’s second round 4-under 68 tied the tourney’s low round with Dan Keogh of The Toronto Golf Club who equaled that mark in his second round.
Don Martone of Crimson Ridge Golf Club in Sault Ste. Marie finished third at 2-under, while defending champion and 2020 winner Dave Bunker finished fourth at -1.
The rest of the field finished over par during the three-round championship.
Lee’s 74-74-79–227 (+11) finish saw him win his bracket by four strokes over Lora Bay GC member Rob Myhill. He recorded his first career ace today at the par-3 15th hole.
Local finishers include Thomas Kelly (Maple City CC) T15, Jay Campbell (Tarandowah GC) T29, Jerry Wright (Seaforth GC) 42nd, Blair Taylor (Public Player, London) T45 and Mike Steyaert (Tarandowah GC) T48. John Crowther (Highland CC), Dave Speir (Sunningdale G&CC), Mike Clarke (West Haven G&CC) and Dean Robichaud (Listowel GC) all missed the cut.
Local finishers in the 65-and-over field included Tom Hossfeld (West Haven G&CC) T25 and Robert O’Hagan (Craigowan GC) MC. Peter Aharan (Sunningdale G&CC) finished 7th in the 70-and-older field. Kelly Roberts (London H&CC) and Blake Clemes (Listowel GC) both missed the cut.
