Yet John Payne of Woodstock, Ont. defied the odds, making two holes-in-one Sunday at his hometown’s nine-hole Sally Creek Golf Club.
Payne, 62, aced the 104-yard hole No. 3, then within a half hour posted another ace at the 117-yard hole No. 7.
“Nobody was more shocked than guys I golf with because they know how badly I suck at this game,” said Payne, who said he golfs to a “13 or 14 handicap” index.
The ultra-rare feat was witnessed early Sunday morning by playing partners Tom Shaddick and Jake Deverell.
“I thought about going out and getting a lottery ticket, but I thought maybe I’ve drained the tank on my luck already today,” said the semi-retired Payne.
