Long-time Highland Country Club golf superintendent Graham Shouldice died Monday at age 79.

A former caddie and member of the grounds crew at London Hunt & Country Club, Shouldice graduated from Western University and became a physical education teacher. Yet he still cut grass at London Hunt during weekends.
“By then, I decided I loved golf much more than teaching,” said Shouldice in a 2007 interview. He left teaching and was hired as assistant superintendent at Highland in 1972, before graduating to head superintendent a year later. Shouldice’s wife, Linda, had been a member of Highland’s grounds crew for 14 years, and she, too, retired after the 2007 season.
The Shouldice family occupied a home resting in Highland’s grounds, next to the fourth tee, and all three children – Lori, Larin and Scott – also had spent time working at their parents’ side.
Shouldice is survived by Linda, his children and grandchildren, and his brother, Bill.
Visitation takes place Monday, Oct. 13 at Westview Funeral Home in London – more information here.
