The land occupied by now-closed River Road Golf could soon be used for paths and parkland.

A new report commissioned by the City of London advises that 46 hectares of the 54-hectare property morph into a city park, complete with an extension of the Thames Valley Parkway. The report, due on bureaucrats’ desks next week, also suggests the remaining eight hectares be sold for development.

All this, two years after city council voted to close and sell the golf club.

According to Scott Stafford, the City’s director of parks and forestry, “We’re excited to have the opportunity to have this large park and open space along the river and in a location of the city that’s underserviced, in the far southeast.”

One year ago, a $1-million fire at the former River Road clubhouse saw the structure razed.
