Following a team win at the Guelph Gryphons Fall Kickoff tournament on Sept. 12, the Western Mustangs women’s golf squad finished T3 with the Windsor Lancers on Monday at the Western Women’s Invitational.
The West Haven Golf & Country Club-hosted tournament saw the talented Gryphons capture top spot with a team score of 223, five strokes better than the Toronto Varsity Blues. Western and Windsor finished 21 strokes back of Guelph, who finished runner-up at their own event.
Guelph’s Ela Jones posted the best score Monday with a one-under 71. Western’s top four golfers – all second-year team members – were Kira Turner of London and Alexandra Kittel of Toronto, both with rounds of 77 (T-5); Marieve Ayres of Burlington, 90; and Hadley McHenry of Aurora, 94.

Other Western finishers: rookie Jadalynn Lee of Edmonton, 92; and rookie Heather Craig, 101.
Mustangs head coach Lana McIlwain, a Mustangs golf alumnus, said she was pleased with performances from Turner and Kittel who “stayed focused the whole day, played very smart and hit a lot of great shots. They did a really good job keeping up the momentum from Friday at Guelph Lakes.”
McIlwain believes the strength of this year’s team is having “a lot of really great players, and now they all have one or two years of playing experience with OUA golf. We have a very strong team of players, all with great attitudes towards the game. I’m very excited to see how well we do this year.”
Here’s the remaining Mustangs 2025 fall schedule: Sept. 21 at the Brock Invitational, Sept. 23 at the London Hunt & Country Club Match Play event, Sept. 27-28 at the University of Waterloo Invitational, Sept. 29 at the Guelph Invitational and the OUA Championships Oct. 17-19.
