Following up on his CCAA bronze medal in 2021, Mitchel Hampson captured his second national college golf medal – silver – yesterday at Deer Creek Golf Club in Ajax.

Behind the Falcons sophomore, Fanshawe won its first national golf team medal, capturing bronze behind tournament winner Humber Hawks, and silver medal-winning Boomerang d’André-Laurendeau of Montreal.

Hampson, whose story of making the trek from his homeland to Fanshawe College is published here, won bronze at last year’s CCAA tournament. That was Fanshawe’s first-ever men’s individual golf medal.

This week at the Durham College-hosted nationals, Hampson posted rounds of 72-73-75-73–293 (+9), five strokes back of winner Mathew Bremer of Humber. Hampson was the lone Falcon named to the All-Canadian team.

Earlier, at the OCAA tournament, Hampson led wire-to-wire to win Ontario gold. The Falcons team also grabbed gold – their first provincial championship since 1992.

Other Fanshawe finishes yesterday: Ben Landers (T12); Luke Evans (T20); Colin Warren (T28); and Brent Schidowka (31). Landers, Warren and Schidowka were all champions on the local Junior Tyson Tour.

From CCAA:

The Humber Hawks earned gold medals across all categories during the final round of the 2022 CCAA Golf National Championship, presented by PING.

The Hawks claimed the men’s team competition championship for the first time since 2012, winning by 20 strokes over the Boomerang d’André-Laurendeau. The Medicine Hat Rattlers made a strong final round push, but the Fanshawe Falcons were able to hold onto third place and earn the bronze medals.

Humber’s Matthew Bremer won the men’s individual gold finishing four over par across four days. Fanshawe’s Mitchel Hampson took home an individual silver medal and Daniel Talmage from Humber rounded out the top three with a bronze medal.

On the women’s side, Hayley McCallum and Madison Ouellette of Humber took home the individual gold and silver medals respectively, and Morgan Best of John Abbott earned the bronze medal on the women’s side.

Among women’s conference teams, the OCAA-1 team made up of a Humber trio – Elaine Surjoprajogo, Hayley McCallum and Madison Ouellette – earned the gold medals. The RSEQ-1 team made up of John Abbott’s Morgan Best and Juliana Lacoste finished second to earn silver medals. Only three strokes behind them, the RSEQ-2 team made up of André-Laurendeau’s Rosalie Langlos, Camille Gagnon and Chanybel Chiasson took home bronze.
