CCAA

As a team, the Fanshawe Falcons are bridesmaids once again, this time at the CCAA Golf Championships at RedCrest Golf Club in King, Ont.

Falcons fourth-year golfer Luke Evans of Georgetown, Ont. is the CCAA individual gold medalist, and the Falcons silver medalists.

Evans’ rounds of 71-76-71-70—288 (+4), two strokes ahead of silver medalist Zach Pageau of the gold medal-winning Cégep André-Laurendeau College Boomerang of LaSalle, Que., helped the Falcons claim second spot at the 6,557-yard course.

Fanshawe finished at +61 as a team, just two strokes behind the Boomerang. The favoured host Humber Hawks finished third, 18 strokes back of André-Laurendeau.

Ben Landers, a third-year golfer from Delaware who plays out of The Oaks Golf and Country, finished third with rounds of 73-73-72-78—296 (+12), eight strokes behind Evans. Read my feature story on Landers here.

Fanshawe’s John Van Bilsen, a third-year student athlete from Glencoe, finished seventh with a final-round 3-under 70 to help push the Falcons into second spot. It was one of only five rounds in red numbers at the tournament.

Austin Kuiack (2nd year, London) finished 32nd and Griffin Rowe (2nd year, Ailsa Craig) finished T33 for Fanshawe.

Evans, Landers and Van Bilsen were named CCAA All-Canadians. Evans and Landers were OCAA All-Stars, while Fanshawe also won silver at the Ontario tourney.

Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ), the governing body of secondary school, collegiate and university sport in Quebec, captured the women’s team gold. RSEQ’s Rosalie Langlois captured individual gold.
