Awards Banquet Cancelled

Media Alert
March 12, 2020

With the coronavirus pandemic our number one concern as it affects our global community, announces it is cancelling this year’s awards banquet, scheduled for May 1.

This year’s event has already drawn interest from a much larger audience than during past years, and we regret having to cancel this year’s awards luncheon. But with COVID-19 fallout continuing, it is in everyone’s best interest that we instead award this year’s winners their trophies and plaques during smaller, private ceremonies.

School, OHL and NBL of Canada sports events have been suspended. Cancelling this year’s awards banquet was the only choice.

In the near future, we will formally recognize Heart Award winner Steve Bennett, Jeffrey Reed Courage Award winner Preston Swan-Merrison, and runner-up Mikaila Emrich with their awards.

The awards banquet has quickly become a staple of the local sports calendar. It is with a heavy heart that we cancel this year’s luncheon.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the more than 124,000 people in 118 countries who have been infected by COVID-19, the families of the more than 4,600 who have died world-wide, and with our local health officials who keep abreast of the pandemic and prepare us all for the future.
